Chiropractic Care
WHAT IS CHIROPRACTIC?
Chiropractic care is the third largest primary
health care profession in the world. It offers
a non-invasive, non-drug alternative to some
of the significant health care problems plaguing
the world today.
Chiropractic care is based
on the premise
that good health depends
in part upon a normally
functioning nervous system.
Chiropractors understand
that many of the
body's dysfunctions can
be linked to nerve
interference, caused by
abnormal pressure
or irritation of the spinal
nerves. By relieving
this pressure and restoring
proper nerve
flow, symptoms can often
be relieved and
good health can be restored.
Chiropractors base this
knowledge on years
of study and research into
the biomechanics
of the human body and the
cause and effect
that injuries have on the
spinal system,
as well as the overall
health of an individual.
Chiropractic research and
its effectiveness
in treating many common
problems is readily
documented. The chiropractic
profession has
undergone six formal government
inquiries
during the past 20 years.
These inquiries
have found contemporary
chiropractic health
care to be safe, effective,
and cost-effective
in the treatment of many
musculoskeletal
problems.
IS IT SAFE?
Chiropractic is the safest
form of treatment
as proven in numerous studies.
For example,
a review by Paul Jaskoviak,
D.C., D.A.C.A.N.
reporting on the National
College of Chiropractic
Clinics experience during
a 15 year period,
concluded that 5 million
chiropractic treatments
were performed without
a single case of vertebral
artery injury or stroke.?
There is no clinical or
case controlled study
that demonstrates or even
implies that chiropractic
spinal adjustment is unsafe
in the treatment
of lower back pain. In
fact, the literature
suggests that chiropractic
manipulation is
safer than medical treatment
of lower back
pain.
DOES IT WORK?
Research shows that spinal adjustments, performed
by chiropractors, have superior results in:
Reducing back pain
Reducing neck pain
Reducing headache pain
Increasing range of movement
in joints
There is an overwhelming
body of evidence
indicating that chiropractic
management of
lower back pain is more
cost-effective than
medical management. This
evidence includes
studies showing lower chiropractic
costs
for the same diagnosis
and episodic need
for care.
CONSIDER THE FACTS:
>Low back pain is one of the most common medical
conditions in the Western world today, afflicting
approximately 85% of all persons sometime
during their lives.l
>46% of children surveyed at school had a
history of back pain.
>In 1993 alone, over 337,000 people suffered
a cervical strain (whiplash) injury as a
result of a vehicular accident in a passenger
car, light truck or van. Many suffer pain,
headaches, or digestive trouble weeks, months,
or years later, unaware that the accident
injured their spine and nervous system.
>Every 24 to 36 hours 50 to 80 percent of
adults in the United States and United Kingdom
swallow a medically prescribed chemical.
>Each year, up to 2 million people are hospitalized
and 140,000 of them die from side effects
or reactions to prescription drugs. |
